My barrel horse stepped on a nail about a month ago and is still in recovery! We are thinking she did something to her hock coming out of the trailer but our vet says he thinks it is still where the nail went, thank goodness it didn't hit her bone! I trotted on the pattern at show this past friday and she wanted to run but I held her back I don't want her hurt any worse. But isn't it just amazing how a horse will push through pain to please you? I'm trying to stay strong for her because she is worrking so hard to try to please me. She is a great friend to me and I know she will get through it! I look forward to your articles every month! Keep up the good work! (:

Thank you. I am so glad that things worked out for you too! :) It's truly amazing how things fall together sometimes. It can be very hard to understand, but it all works out in the end. I wish you and your horses the best of luck! I hope that your good horse comes back strong.

Thank you so much for sharing your story with me.

Sincerely,
Lauren <

Lauren - Thank you for a great article. I experienced pretty much the same thing this past year but not due to an injury. I was not riding my "good" horse really well, so I decided to give us both some time off and started concentrating on my 6 yr. old mare that was far from a finished barrel horse. To my amazement, we started developing that special bond between horse and rider. While she's not yet the fastest or even the smoothest barrel horse, she has more heart and try than any three horses put together. I've had a great time hauling her to jackpots and look forward to finishing her out. Meanwhile, my good horse is starting to come back around and I really look forward to running her again next summer. While I'm sure I'm not the only one that's experienced this, it's refreshing to see it in print. Again, thank you.
